“A reward system has dramatically increased school attendance at the Broome Senior High School in Western Australia. Eight young indigenous students have spent the day on a whale watching tour boat off the Kimberley coast with their teacher Reha Sara. She says it’s important to reward the effort the girls are putting into their education.
“It’s a reward for going to school, it’s a reward for staying positive, it’s a celebration of their achievements,” she says.
The girls, who are in Years 7 and 8, come from small aboriginal communities scattered around the north-west and live at the Broome Girls Academy hostel while attending the high school.”
