Balga Academy Launch

On Wednesday 17th May we proudly launched the Balga Girls Academy in Perth. The new Academy was officially opened by His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and her excellency Lady Cosgrove.

The Academy students led Their Excellencies into the event with a traditional Aboriginal dance where they were then presented with an official plaque to commemorate the launch.

This was a great opportunity to showcase the program and we are very appreciative of the support shown by Their excellencies. The Academy staff and students were delighted that Their Excellencies attended the event, provided an inspiring address and showed such a strong interest in their education and potential.

The Hon Simone McGurk MLA Minister for Child Protection; Women’s Interests; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services and the Hon Liza Harvey, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, were also in attendance at what was a wonderful occasion.

Many thanks to all that attended and showed their support for the Girls Academy, and to the Balga staff and students for all of their efforts in bringing the day together. A special mention goes out to the Balga SHS hospitality students for providing our guests with such a fantastic spread!
